About CERGE-EI

CERGE-EI (Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education - Economics Institute) is a joint workplace of Charles University and the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It is ranked in the top 5% research institutions worldwide by the Social Science Research Network (SSRN) and Research Papers in Economics (RePEc).

Our faculty and researchers have established a remarkable record of professional careers and publications in top economics and policy-oriented journals. They hold PhDs from top-rated academic institutions and have been recruited from the international market. They regularly obtain prestigious research grants, including several European Research Council (ERC) Grants.

We offer two study programs: PhD in Economics is designed for outstanding students interested in economic research and who desire a rigorous graduate education in Economics, Master in Economic Research is designed for students interested in applied economic research and public policy. Our graduates pursue academic careers in prestigious university departments around the world, hold high-level positions in international organizations, government ministries, central banks, think tanks, and private sector organizations.

We also run a policy-oriented think-tank, the Institute for Democracy and Economic Analysis (IDEA), in order to apply our know-how to important policy issues.

“The work is incredibly important. Investing in the education of these remarkable young men and women and what they will contribute to their countries is both socially responsible and smart business.”
